Electrical/Electronics Engineer (GUN)

We are currently looking to recruit two Electric/Electronics Engineers. The role of engineer is developing the tools required to operate TARLA HV gun, injector and maintaining components installed to the system. The duties will involve working closely with other members of other technical groups in TARLA.

Key duties:

  • Design electrical circuits in support of the TARLA gun system;
  • Perform analytical calculations and report writing;
  • Make measurements on low/high voltage power supplies using electronic test equipment;
  • Perform trouble shooting and maintenance activities on the existing systems and high voltage power supplies. Some on-call work should be expected during our 24/7 accelerator run periods;
  • Use software tools (including modeling programs) to complete designs;
  • Contribute to the design of new high voltage platform to operate TARLA gun;
  • Design new system controls and instrumentation (using microcontrollers, microprocessor, FPGAs and PLCs);
  • Ability to maintain composure, think clearly, and perform well under pressure when working to strict time lines;
  • Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize tasks;
  • The successful candidate will be part of a technical staff supporting various power sources and RF systems including RF power amplifiers such as klystrons and solid state technologies;

Qualification & Experience:

  • Ability to perform complex and/or varied tasks in electric and electronics;
  • Ability to use instruments such as VNA, Spectrum analyzer, phase noise analyzer;
  • Ability to program PIC, microprocessors and microcontrollers;
  • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore and implement alternative solutions;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and systems and develop models.

Essential:

  • Minimum BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Applied Physics) and 0-3 years of experience;
  • The ideal candidate will have a solid background in analog electronics and have course work/experience in one of the following areas, RF/microwaves, high voltage systems, AC to DC electrical power conversion, pulsed power systems;
  • Experience with engineering CAD/software packages such as Mentor Graphics, Altium, and/or engineering analysis/model/simulation programs (ADS, HFSS, Matlab, Multisim etc.) is preferred;
  • Experience with or knowledge of digital design (FPGA), and or PLCs is preferred;
  • Programing experience in one of the following languages C, C++, JAVA, and or Python is desired;
  • The applicant must have good team and communication skills and be able to work in multidisciplinary groups (engineers, technicians, programmers, and physicists) to solve technical problems. Strong background in applied physics and a curious mind highly desired;
  • The applicant must have high initiative and be a “self-starter”;
